3B8, MAURITIUS. Karel, OK2ZI, will be active as 3B8/OK2ZI from Pointe aux Sables, Mauritius (AF-041), between July 26th and August 4th. Activity will be on 80-10 meters (160m depends on local conditions) using CW, SSB and the Digital modes. Rig is a Kenwood TS-480HX into an Inverted VEE, Vertical or VDA’s. 7Q, MALAWI. Alex, IW5ELA, will be active as 7Q7ELA from three different lodges in Malawi between September 17-26th. Operations will be from Game Have Lodge (September 17-20th), Mvuu Camp (September 20-23rd) and Makokola Retreat (September 23-26th). This will be a suitcase operation using a Yaesu FT-857 transceiver into vertical antenna. Activity will be on various HF bands using mainly CW. QSLs will be sent automatically by the Bureau. 7V, ALGERIA (Special Event). Operators Noury/7X2JV, Amine/7X2VB, Toufik/ 7X2DE and Charef/7X4CZ will be using the special callsign 7V5ID during the month of July. Activity is in celebration of the 57th anniversary of Algeria’s Independence from Stidia, Mostaganem. Activity will be on 160-10 meters using CW, SSB and FT8, with five rigs running 100 watts using multiple antennas. QSL via 7X4CZ. FP, ST. PIERRE & MIQUELON . Eric, KV1J, will once again be operating from the Island of Miquelon (NA-032, DIFO FP-002 WLOTA 1417, Grid GN17) as FP/KV1J between July 3-17th. This is his 12th trip to the island. Activity will be on 80-10 meters using CW, SSB, RTTY (but pri- marily SSB and RTTY) and the satellites. He will generally be on the highest frequency band that is open (favoring 12/10m). He will be active in the IARU HF Contest (July 14-15th), and the DL-DX RTTY Contest (July 7-8th). ADDED NOTE: Eric will usually try to be on as many Satellite passes as he can when the WX is good. Generally favoring the FO-29, AO-7, and XW-2* birds. JW100, SVALBARD. Members of the Amateur Radio Club SP3PET will be active as JW100PUT from Petuniabukta, Spitsbergen (EU-026), to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Academic Ham Radio Club of the Poznan University of Technology between July 18-31st. OX, GREENLAND . Bo, OZ1DJJ, will once again be active as OX3LX from Ittoqqortoormiit City, East Greenland (NA-018, WW. Loc. HQ90) until July 14th. Activity will be on various HF bands, but limited to his spare time when not working (He states, „Best chance is in the morning around lunch and after dinner [local time utc+2], on the weekend also during night/morning”). PJ2, CURACAO (Update). Look for the Dave Kalter Youth DX Adventure to be active as PJ2Y (pending) from the PJ2T contest station on Curacao (SA-099) between July 19-24th. Operators will consist of four youths and team leaders. The leaders are Jim/AB8YK and Ron/N8VAR. Youth members are Violetta/KM4ATT, Mason/KM4SII, Dhruv/KC9ZJX and David/VE7DZO. V4, ST. KITTS. John, W5JON/V47JA, informs OPDX that the 6 meter V47JA/b beacon is now on the air and is transmitting on 50.053 MHz. The beacon is on a mountain top at 1100 feet ASL (above sea level) and running 10 watts into a 6m Omni Loop antenna.
VP9, BERMUDA (NA-005). Paul, G4BKI, will once again be active as VP9KF from Baileys Bay, Hamilton Parish, Bermuda Islands (NA-005), between October 31st and November 14th. VQ5, TURKS AND CAICOS ISLANDS . Operators Peter/VE3IKV and Bill/W4TAA/VE3MMQ will be active as VQ5Z from the Providenciales Island (NA-002, WW Loc. FL31vs) between July 1-10th. Activity will be on the HF bands and 6 meters (with a focus on 6m) using CW, SSB, FT8, MSK144 and JT65A. They will have a 6m beacon running on 50.107 MHz, and will be running 100 watts into a 8 element Yagi with 12.1 dBd gain. It is suggested to watch the ON4KST 6 meter chat page. QSL via VE3IKV direct.
XT2, BURKINA FASO. Operators Peter/S54W, Janko/S57L, Robert/S58Y, Rado/ S59ZZ and Tine/S50A will be active as XT2SZZ from Bobo Dioulasso between October 22-30th. Activity will be on various HF bands and 6 meters as well. The Slovenian team will also participate in the CQWW DX SSB Contest (October 27-28th) as a Multi-Single/Low-Power entry. QSL via S59ZZ.
Z3, FYROM OR FYR MACEDONIA [THE FORMER YUGOSLAV REPUBLIC OF MACEDONIA] (Name Change). The FYROM is now officially know as the „Republic of North Macedonia” as of June 17, 2018. Greece and Macedonia signed an agreement to end their dispute, which would result in Macedonia being renamed the „Republic of North Macedonia”. This puts an end to the dispute which started in 1991 over the use of the name Macedonia. Wikipedia states, „The agreement still requires ratification by both parliaments to come into effect, while Macedonia is also scheduled to hold a referendum about the required changes to its constitution later in 2018. As of June 2018, both governments are expected to have to overcome stiff political opposition in their respective countries in order to conclude this process.”
